Ageing 'is not a disease', says Saga

Older celebrities such as Dame Helen Mirren are an inspiration to people who may be choosing a care home to take care of their bodies later in life, according to Saga Magazine.

A number of newspapers reported this month that models like Twiggy have prompted a new generation of weight watchers, who are often more dedicated and disciplined than their younger counterparts.

Emma Soames, editor-at-large for Saga Magazine, said older people are using new technology such as the Wii to help them stay in shape.

"Getting older is not an illness. Ageing is not a disease. You can be incredibly well and fit in your 60s, and indeed in your 70s," she said.

"More and more people now know this and are striving to achieve it."

This follows advice from that low impact exercises, like swimming and brisk walking, are particularly suited to over-50s.
