More dementia research 'only way to beat illness'

Funding more research is the only way to truly defeat dementia, one industry expert maintains.

Hannah Clack, media manager at The Alzheimer's Society, has commented that the commitment by the government to Alzheimer's research is "really fantastic".

She said that the money dedicated to dementia research by the coalition provides the "opportunity of a generation" to change the landscape of research while aiding those suffering from dementia now and in future years.

"What we need is this commitment translated into action to move quickly, because the need couldn't be greater at the moment," finished the expert.

This follows an announcement by the Department of Health which promised more money would be allocated to dementia research with the aim of finding a cure or superior treatment for the condition.

Care services minister Paul Burstow joined forced with 17 experts and interested parties in order to look at ways the impact and volume of dementia research can be increased.
