Care home volunteer tackles half marathon for charity

An amateur runner and volunteer working with those paying for care is to tackle the Torbay Half Marathon on June 19th in order to raise money for charity.

Rob Dand, 24, is to enter the race to raise money for the Brixham-based Leonard Cheshire Disability, reports the Herald Express.

The volunteer works at Sainsbury's in Paignton, but ensure he spend at least one day a month helping out at Douglas House in Cheshire.

Sandra Marsden, volunteer co-ordinator at the home, said: "We really appreciate the time Rob's given us and for raising much-needed funds for Douglas House."

In other news, residents paying for care at a supported house complex raised money for the Hartlepool and District Hospice, reports the Hartlepool Mail.

Staff and residents at the Dimension Supported Living Service in Hartlepool raised £297.20 at a garden part to celebrate the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.
