Young carers 'deserve more support'
People who look after older members of society, who may be choosing a care home in the future, deserve more support than they are currently given, according to the Princess Royal Trust for Carers.
Gordon Conochie, joint policy and parliamentary officer at the organisation, said although it supports around 25,000 young carers and their families in the UK, there are hundreds of thousands more who are not getting the help they need.
Additionally, providing support is only set to get harder with the cuts local authorities are due to make.
"We already know that some of our young carers' services are having their funding cut, and in one area, they have even cut funding for trips and activities for young carers," he added.
Earlier this year, Carers UK welcomed the news that Carer's Allowance is to remain a non means-tested benefit, saying this recognises that carers have a unique place in the benefits system.
