Work begins on new Sandwell care centre

People in Greets Green, West Bromwich will soon be given a wider choice when choosing a care home, after work began in earnest on a £12.5 million project.
Goldfield Court in Dartmouth Street will feature 92 self-contained apartments for people over 55, as well as community amenities such as a shop, restaurant and beauty salon, 24dash.com reports.
The development, which is due to complete in 2012, is the second extra care housing scheme to be provided by Housing 21 in Sandwell, along with Queensridge Court in Oldbury which opened last year.
"We are delighted to see construction of Goldfield Court getting underway," Julia Goodwin, development programme manager for Housing 21 told the news provider.
"This new extra care scheme will provide residents with a safe and secure environment in which to live an independent lifestyle in a community setting."
It follows news that Sutton Council is to reopen a consultation to examine whether a new provider can take over the running of Oakleigh Care Centre.
