Residents 'Remember When' at the seaside

Posted on 14 July 2011

People paying for care in Sheffield enjoyed a retro trip to the seaside as part of a 'Remember When' afternoon, it has been reported.

In an activity to mark Dementia Awareness Week, staff from Brackenfield Hall recreated at seaside resort from the 1930s and 40s, according to the Sheffield Star.

Residents watched a show performed by Joanne Brunt - an expert in entertainment for those with dementia - and were encouraged to reminisce about past seaside holidays.

A box of costumes and artefacts was on hand for the residents to touch and feel, including sun hats, sticks of rock, boxes of sand, seashells and old fashioned buckets and spades.

This comes after news that residents paying for care in Chester attended their own version of the Cannes Film festival.

Chesterfirst reports that residents returned to the golden age of cinema with a classic reel featuring Charlie Chaplin films.
