Private companies bidding to take over Leicester care home

Leicester County Council has invited bids for a care home for people suffering from dementia with long term care plans.

Private care operators are being offered the chance to take over Catherine Dalley House, in Melton Mowbray, from the council, reports the Leicester Mercury.

The facility provides care for 24 people with dementia, who would stay on site while any development took place.

It is believed the new owners would rebuild the home, also incorporating the site of the former Silverdale Hostel, with an aim to focus on providing extra care.

Council cabinet member for adults and communities David Sprason told the publication: "The size of the Melton site lends itself perfectly to the development and now we have to get all of the interested parties to offer proposals for the care home."

In other news, permission has been granted for an 88-bed care home in Oswestry, Shropshire, which will replace Coverage Care's Fairholme unit in Monda Road.
