Locks Heath centre wins praise from MP

A day care centre in Locks Heath, Hampshire has been praised by a local MP, which may encourage people in the area making long term care plans.

Lockswood Day Care Centre, which has been running for more than 15 years and provides care for up to 18 elderly people, was applauded by Fareham representative Mark Hoban, the Daily Echo reports.

"I think that whilst we are all going through difficult times, the important thing is do as much as possible to protect front line services," he told the newspaper.

"That is a priority that Hampshire County Council shares as well."

However, the comments came shortly after the newspaper revealed that a number of residential homes and day centres in the area have been earmarked for closure as the council tries to make £24.4 million in savings.

The Huddersfield Examiner also reported recently that services for older people in Kirklees could soon see an £11 million funding cut, which could restrict options when choosing a care home.
