Kilburn Care Centre saved until October

Posted on 16 June 2011

People paying for long term care in Kilburn have been cheered by the news that Kilburn Care Centre will remain open until at least October.

The facility is owned by crisis-hit Southern Cross Healthcare, which fell into difficulties after receiving a £250 million rent bill it could not repay, the Ripley and Heanor News reports.

However, the company has now negotiated a deal with its landlords which safeguards all of its homes until October, meaning residents of Kilburn Care Centre have been granted some respite.

The newspaper reports Daniel Smith of Grant Thornton, chairman of the landlords' committee, as saying: "Our overriding concern at this time remains minimising disruption and concern for residents and their families."

Under the proposals, landlords may be able to recover their properties and find new operators.
