Hull care homes 'to stay open'
Residents in Hull paying for care in council-run care homes should not worry about their futures, according to the council's labour leader Steve Brady.
Under Liberal Democrat plans, two care homes - the Alderson Resource Centre and Salinger House - had been due to close, reports the Hull Daily Mail.
However, Councillor Brady will formally take over as council leader next week, and said he will not carry out the closures.
He told the newspaper: "Labour in Hull has a history of defending day centres and old people's homes and we made a commitment that these places would remain open under our budget proposals."
"Later this week, I will be visiting every day centre and all the residential homes to make sure that message get across."
Meanwhile, residents paying for care at Scunthorpe nursing home Lilacs are protesting the possible closure of the facility, reports the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
