A nursing home for older people in need of nursing and dementia care has been announced in Friern Barnet, widening the choice of people choosing a care home.

Health and social care charity Jewish Care has announced plans to open the new facility at the end of 2013, reports the Times Series.

This would add 48 bedrooms to its Lady Sarah Cohen House and Rosetrees care homes which are already situated on Asher Loftus Way, where the new facility is to be opened.

Stephen Zimmerman, chairman of the charity, told the publication: "Creating opportunities to provide a range of services from each of our sites is part of that strategy, as is creating opportunities for as much cross-generational interaction as possible."

Meanwhile, the options of those choosing a care home in Gainsborough have been expanded, with the Drovers Call facility opening in Gainsborough.

The 60 bedroom care home has been built on the site of an old pub, also called Drovers Call.
