Flaxseed 'does not control hot flushes'
Menopausal women, who may be paying for care, cannot control their hot flushes by consuming Flaxseed, research has shown.
No significant difference was found in the hot flush levels of those taking flaxseed compared to the women who did not, a Mayo Clinic and North Central Cancer Treatment Group study showed.
Previous Mayo Clinic research had indicated that hot flushes could be managed through the consumption of 40 grams of crushed flaxseed per day.
Sandhya Pruthi, from Mayo Clinic's Breast Diagnostic Clinic, explained: "While our preliminary data from our 2007 pilot study showed a reduction in hot flashes associated with the consumption of ground flaxseed, our new study did not result in a significant decrease in hot flashes with eating flaxseed compared to placebo."
Meanwhile, research at Florida State University indicated that apples are a "miracle fruit" for post-menopausal women.
Women who ate an apple a day for a year, as opposed to dried prunes, were seen to have a 23 per cent decrease in 'bad cholesterol'.
