A care home manager in Essex has won an award for her work with those who are paying for care.

Laura Glyde, manager of Stafford Hall care home in Benfleet, was named Manager of the Year by Essex County Council, reports the Echo.

Runwood Homes, who run the care home, nominated the manager for the achievement award, which was presented at the Adult Learning Centre.

Ms Glyde told the newspaper: "The best part of my job is to know the residents are busy.

"People are scared of dementia, but these people here can live life with dementia. It is all about making sure they are happy."

The manager is also arranging a wartime music concert for those paying for long term care in the Essex area, which will take place at Chelmsford's Hylands Park.

A Hartshorne nursing home was also honoured recently, with its kitchen receiving a five-star rating from health inspectors, reports the Burton Mail. This will no doubt make the facility an attractive prospect for people choosing a care home.
