Dumbarton waterworks site to become care home?

Posted on 04 April 2011

What used to be a waterworks site in Dumbarton could be transformed into a nursing home if plans are approved, widening the choice for people choosing a care home in the area.

Proposals to turn the site, on Garshake Road, into a residential nursing home and supported living centre have been supported by West Dunbartonshire Council's social work department, reports the Lennox Herald.

Planning permission has already been granted for a 43-bed residential nursing home and four houses on the site. However, the new plans eliminate the houses and include a bigger home alongside separate supported living accommodation units.

According to the publication, the report says: "The four house plots will be replaced by eight assisted living apartments and the council's social work service has confirmed that there is a significant requirement for additional residential care home accommodation within the Dumbarton area."

More spaces for people choosing a care home have also been made available in Hoddesdon, Herfordshire, as the Belmont View care home begins a £2.5 million extension.

According to the Hertfordshire Mercury, this will make room for another 25 residents at the care home, which currently houses 60 people.
