A Scarthingwell care home housing people paying for care held a Proms and Picnic in the Park to raise money for charity.

Tadcaster Grammer School concert band performed at the occasion and a special menu was prepared, reports the Wetherby News.

Organiser Richard Sweeting, activities coordinator at the care home, said the day was "a massive success" and thanked those that had taken part.

"We have wonderful grounds here at Highfield and the surroundings were a perfect setting for a Proms and Picnic in the Park," he told the publication.

Over £200 was raised for Selby District Council's charities, the British Heart Foundation and the Peter Pan Nursery in Sherburn-in-Elmet.

This follows fundraising efforts by Oak Lodge Care Home in Chard, which held an open day for the Alzheimer's Society, raising £250 for the cause, according to thisisthewestcountry.co.uk.

The event highlighted recent work done on some of the care home's rooms.
