Barry cinema site to be turned into care home
The site of a former Theatre Royal cinema in Barry is to be turned into an extra care facility, giving those choosing a care home in the area more options.
A £7 million project has been approved by members of the Vale Council's planning committee, reports the Barry & District News.
Some £4.18 million will be allocated to the project by the Welsh Assembly Government, with Hafod Care to put up the rest of the funding.
The site will feature facilities tailored for over-55s, including a hairdresser, laundrette and cafe.
Hafod Care managing director, Robert Wathen, told the newspaper: "The development's central location will allow the residents to enjoy a high level of independence, while also having access to the right levels of care and support within the building."
People choosing a care home in Bradford on Avon will also have their options opened up, with the construction of a 63 bed nursing home on an old hospital site set to go ahead, reports the Wiltshire Times.
